Cypress Gardens

There is a city in southern California, called Cypress. It is located in suburbs of Long Beach and has a population of 42,655 people. A popular tourist park in this city is known as Cypress gardens.

Some evergreen trees or shrubs of the genus Cupressus are also known as Cypress. They have opposite, scale like leaves and globose woody cones. They are native to Eurasia and North America. The wood is hard and very durable. It is also fragrant. The foliage is dark and gloomy. In the East, the Cypress tree is used as a funeral tree and is planted among the tombs.

There is also a famous historical tourist destination in South Carolina known as Cypress Gardens. It is located about 24 miles north of Charleston. The garden is often known as "Gem of Berkeley County." The natural beauty is wonderful as visitors are taken on flat bottom boats to sail around the swamps of the garden. Some visitors may glide through the tropical canals using the garden's electric boats. There is also a choice of walking through various nature trails on the garden.

History has it that this garden was formerly part of Dean hall Plantation where rice was cultivated in 1720. A memory of this rice cultivation still remains in a Rice Reservoir now known as Cypress Gardens Swamp. There is also about 8,000 varieties of flowers obtained from more than 90 different countries of the world.

Though the gate of this first commercial tourist theme park was opened on January 2, 1936, this beautiful garden was closed between April 13, 2003 and December 2004 due to some financial problems that the park was having.
