Garden Bridges

A garden is a plot of land used for the cultivation of flowers, vegetables, herbs, or fruit, whilst a bridge is a structure spanning and providing passage over a gap or barrier, such as a river or roadway. Thus garden bridges are structures built within the garden to allow overhead access across any gap or barrier.

Within the garden environment, bridges are built for many reasons. It is usually functional bridges that may be give visitors access across a swamp or river in the garden. It may also be across a roadway within the premises. It may also be built across a railway, if it is a large garden.

The beauty of a garden is better appreciated if the visitor to the garden has an undisturbed view of the whole place. Even an aerial view is sometime possible if the bridge is very high into the sky. Gardens provide recreational facilities as well as other functions, thus designers normally introduce one or more bridges within the garden premises so that a visitor will have the opportunity of enjoying more of the natural environment.

There are other kinds of bridges that are also found in the garden setting. They are miniature bridges purposely erected for the birds that flock within the garden. It allows the animals more spaces for maneuvering. They are useful links for the birds and also add more beauty to the garden environment.

The normal bridges are usually designed and built by architects and civil engineers whilst simple ones can be casually built by the garden owner. For big bridges, it is an engineering feat and is heavy metal structure, though some can be made of wood depending on the kind of weights (loads) it will be carrying at maximum capacity.

Costs of the bridges vary widely since it depends on a whole lot of factors, including size, and functionality. If it is a big bridge, it may run into millions of dollars whilst a small one will cost much less. One can always get quotes for bridges by consulting experts in the field.

Garden bridges are usually beautiful structures since it is expected to add to the purpose of the garden. Some designs seem to hang just in the air suspended by ropes and appear to "dance" when one runs across it or moves briskly. Such kind of bridges adds even more fun. Such hanging bridges over a valley or swamp allows visitors to have an aerial view of the swamp or valley.
